Uber’s arch-rival rolls out electric car fleet

What's Going On Here?
What Does This Mean?
We love this idea and while you can’t yet specifically order an electric cab in the UK, that may soon change. Uber has launched a similar initiative that incentivises drivers to switch to electric vehicles, offering car deals and a dedicated charging network across London.
Uber has also started charging users an extra 15p per mile on every trip to help its drivers buy electric cars. However critics say that this is simply a PR move from Uber - instead they say the solution to London’s pollution crisis is a cap on minicab and private hire vehicle numbers.
Why Should We Care?
There are government initiatives to increase the number of zero emissions taxis in London, but older, heavily polluting models like the Euro 5 could still be on the road until 2030.
Lyft’s lovely electric cars may not have made it across the pond just yet, but we can all make greener choices when getting from A to B.
Yes, we’ve said it before, but cycling is the cheapest, greenest way to get around. If your workplace is signed up to the cycle to work scheme, now’s the time to take advantage and bag a bargain bike in time for some springtime cycling!
