5 renewable energy trends to get excited for in 2019

What's Going On Here?
If 2018 was the year that we waged war on single-use plastics, 2019 is predicted to be a pivotal year for renewable energy. Keep reading to find out the top five trends you should get excited for in the new year.
1) Renewable Energy Storage
Not only will we be better at storing energy for a rainy day, it will also make renewables more price competitive - bye bye fossil fuels, you’re old news.
2) Intelligent Microgrids
In short, microgrids are local energy grids that can generate, supply and control power for smaller areas. They can also integrate with larger energy grids to provide back-up power in times of emergency.
With the help of AI technology, microgrids are becoming quicker and easier to set-up, which is helping small communities to think big. The Pacific Island nation, Palau (the 13th smallest country in the world) has committed to creating the world’s largest microgrid in order to achieve its goal of using 70% renewable energy by 2050. Right on, beautiful Palau! (see below)
3) Blockchain for the energy market
4) New year green energy resolutions
5) Energy for the many, not the few
When you can turn on the lights or boil the kettle with the flick of a switch, it’s easy to forget that a billion people don’t have access to electricity, and hundreds of millions more have an unreliable, prohibitively expensive supply.
There is hope though. With the combination of cheaper energy solutions, renewable energy microgrids, and investment from international groups like the World Bank, we can expect to see more and more communities in developing nations getting access to affordable, reliable, clean energy in 2019.
