Is this the road to El Dorado zero transport emissions?
by Imogen Berryman
What's Going On Here?
In the last week, The Department for Transport have announced several new sustainable plans including funding for socio-environmental transport initiatives, low-emission taxis, renewable roadways and trialling innovative solutions to maintain our roads.
What Does This Mean?
The government has awarded more than £80 million to sustainable transport schemes across the country.
Why Should We Care?
After hearing the good news that the UK’s CO2 emissions had fallen by 38% since 1990, The advisory Committee on Climate Change warned us that transport emissions actually barely moved.
BUT, considering that this Friday's Euromillions jackpot is £123 million, this makes the amount pledged towards sustainable travel in the UK, seem like pennies. More needs to be done!
