Scientists get 'Gold Stars' for new hydrogen fuel production technique
by Conrad Langridge
What's Going On Here?
What Does This Mean?
Most hydrogen fuel in commercial use is generated from other fuels like coal, oil & gas (they're the cheapest source). So a move to solar-generated hydrogen fuel is an important area of study.
The star-shaped gold nanoparticles help absorb this extra light energy, increasing the efficiency of solar-generated hydrogen and bringing the costs down. (Unfortunately fossil fuels still win the money game )
Why Should I Care?
In fact, each hour 430,000,000,000,000,000,000 joules (that's four hundred and thirty quintrillion) of the sun's energy hits the earth surface, more energy than the entire world consumes in a year.
Power isn’t cheap. The average household has an annual power bill of £1,200.
3. And my favourite… shower time! Every minute you save under that shower will save you £7 per year. (Try turning off the shower as you soap up! Saves water, energy, money & you will actually be cleaner because you'll leave the soap on longer!)
